What
is an ecological footprint? It is a measure of human consumption of natural
resources with planet Earth's ecological capacity to regenerate them.
Individually, it is a measure of per capita consumption of the Earth's
natural resources. The per capita consumption of First World countries
(like US, Japan and European countries) consume on average about 32 more
times more resources than Third World countries. Many Third World countries
are quickly adapting lifestyles of First World countries, which poses
a grave problem to our natural resources. If everyone in the world consumed
as much as people do in the United States, we would need about 5 more
planets to support our habits.
Listed below, you will see a comprehensive guide to
reduce your ecological foot print on this planet. As always, if you have
come across any other methods of reducing your ecological footprint, we
would love to add them to this list. Send an e-mail to ecofootprint@greenshopper.com
and we will promptly review your submission.
